Track: Quality of Education | Innovative practices for students with disabilities

Thomas P. Webb, a veteran disability services advocate focused on equal opportunities for people with disabilities, is the directorof the Office of Disability Services (ODS) and the ADA coordinator at Wright State University. In this role, Tom isresponsible for sustaining and advancing high-quality programs and services that support the individual needs and overall success of Wright State’s students, faculty, and staff. UnderTom’s leadership, Wright State recently ranked the third most accessible university in the nation by New Mobility magazine and the United Spinal Association in their Wheels on Campus guide. His experience as a person with a disability and background in disability policy position him well to work with ODS staff and the community to continue setting national standards of excellence in the area of access and accommodation. In pursuing new opportunities in excellence, he co-led an accessible trip to the United Kingdom for students with and without disabilities. The students explored rehabilitation services and disability from an international perspective. While working at McDaniel College, Tom co-taught a January Term study abroadtrip to Budapest, Hungary, where the class explored cultural differences between Hungary and the United States regarding disability rights and access. He has held director positions at McDaniel College and Chesapeake College (both in Maryland) and at the University of Delaware and has taught undergraduateand graduate programs on disability studies, special education,and special education law. He served for two years inWashington, D.C., as a Kennedy Disability Policy Fellow, which included working with the 110th Congress on multiple policyissues related to education, labor, and disability. His efforts in that role included negotiating and drafting the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act.
